Pasipayaru Kulambu (Green gram Kulumbu)

Beleive me the aroma of this gravy is unbelievable. The roasted cumin seeds and red chilies gives the gravy a smokey flavor.   

If you make it ones this will be your favorite gravy which goes well with rice, chapati, naan and even dosa. I fried some vadagam and made pepper boiled egg for rice and kulumbu.

A best kind of protein rich food for all who are on diet.

Ingredients
  • Green Gram - 1 1/2cup
  • Onion - 1medium size (chopped)
  • Tomato - 1large size (chopped)
  • Garlic cloves - 7 or 8cloves
  • Green chilies - 2nos
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as needed
Roast and Grind
  • Dry chilies - 5nos
  • Cumin seeds - 1 1/2tbsp
  • Shredded Coconut
For temper
  • Mustard seeds - 1 1/2tsp
  • Onion - A handful (chopped)

Instructions
  • In a pressure cooker add the green gram, onion, tomato, green chilies, and garlic cloves. Cook til 4 to 5 whistle and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Then, In a pan add a tbsp of oil and roast the cumin seeds, dey chilies and coconut until will roasted. Grind it in a mixie into paste.
  • Now, In the cooked green gram mixture add the salt and turmeric powder and boil the gravy for 5 minutes.
  • Add the Grind masala to the gravy and cook for 2 minutes. 
  • For temper heat a oil in a pan splutter mustard seeds and a handful of chopped onion. Saute till golden brown and add it to gravy.
  • Serve with rice or chapati.
Cooking Tips
  • It take 4 to 5 whistle to cook the green gram.
  • You can add boiled potatoes in the gravy.
