Paneer Onion recipe made of a lot of onions. I use finely chopped onions for the gravy and bid chunky cut onion for the Paneer Onion.
Simple and easy recipe with simple ingredients. You need just 10 minutes to make this gravy. It will be a good combo with simple ghee rice, plain white rice, rotis, naan, chapati, Dosa, or even for idli.
Or made a simple rasam or nice sambar and have paneer onion as the side. I made bottle gourd kootu and made paneer onion gravy as a side dish.
You can use small pearl onion instead of chunky cut onions for extra taste. I added some heavy cream and fenugreek leaves to give the gravy a North Indian style you can skip both. If you don't have the heavy cream you can use 2 to 3 tbsp of cashews paste. By frying the paneer you will a nice crunch.
- Paneer - 25pieces (2inchs pieces)
- Red Onion - 1medium size(cut in big chunks)
- onion - 1medium size( finely chopped)
- Tomato - 2small size(grated)
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 1/2tbsp
- Cumin seeds - 1tbsp
- Turmeric powder - 1tsp
- Chili powder - 1heaped tbsp
- Coriander powder - 1 1/2 heaped tbsp
- Garam masala - 1tsp
- Drey Fenugreek leaves - 1heaped tbsp
- Heavy cream - 1/4tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Oil or ghee as needed
Instructions
- Heat oil or ghee in a kadhai and splutter the cumin seeds.
- Add the finely chopped onion and saute for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Then, add the ginger-garlic paste, chunky chopped Red onion, turmeric powder, and needed salt for the gravy. Cook for 2 to 4 minutes until the aroma of ginger-garlic paste is gone.
- Add the grated Tomatoes and cook till the oil separates.
- Then, add the chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and cook for 2 minutes. In the meanwhile, pan-fry the paneer cubes in a couple of tbsps of ghee or oil.
- Add the fried paneer cubes with 1/2 cup of water to the onion-tomato gravy.
- Finally, add the heavy cream and fenugreek leaves to the gravy and cook for 2 minutes. Turn off the stove.
- Serve hot with Rice, Rotis, naan, variety rice, etc...
Cooking Tips
- You can add any kind of vegetable even without paneer the gravy will be taste.
- If you don't have heavy cream add 2tbsp of cashew paste to the gravy. Add it when you add the grated tomatoes.
- Or add 1/4cup thick yogurt when you add the tomatoes and 1/2 cup milk at the end when you add the fenugreek leaves.
