Street style Matar Channa Gravy with wheat Puri


When it comes to Indian Street Food we are addicted to it. We don't care about how hygiene the food is prepared or how oily it is and how much organic products are used. We just enjoy the food for our souls.
Matar Gravy with wheat Puri is one of the very popular North Indian street food. When it comes to North India, is famous for his street foods and people thoroughly enjoy it. There are millions of varieties of foods available on the roadsides from morning to midnight. 

I twist this recipe to my own style just a bit healthier version I would say. I use both dry peas and chickpeas to give that extra taste and I made puris with wheat flour. They are healthy and can have one more extra I believe. One of the easy recipe that everybody can make it with simple ingredients and kids love it too.

So, How you serve the gravy and the puris.

In a plate first, keep the puris then comes a whole deep soup ladle
of the  Matar Channa Gravy and then, the onion green chili crunch on top. Just soak the puris and enjoy it.

 Ingredients
  • Dry Peas - 2cups (Washed and Soaked for 6hrs)
  • Potato - 2medium size(cut into cube size pieces)
  • Onion - 2 medium sizes for the masala (chopped in lengthwise)
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 1/2tbsp
  • Tumeric powder - 1 1/2tsp
  • Chili powder - 2tbsp
  • Coriander powder - 3tbsp
  • Amchur powder - 1tbsp
  • Green chilies - 4nos
  • Salt to taste
  • oil as needed
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions
  • Pressure cook the soaked peas until 2 whistles or it is well cooked and keeps it aside. 
  • Heat oil in a kadhai. Then, add the cut potato pieces and the ginger-garlic paste and cook the potatoes in the oil until its 3/4 done.
  • Now, add the chili powder, coriander powder, salt, and turmeric powder, cook for 4 to 5 minutes.

  • Add the cooked peas and add 1 cup of water. Cook for 5 minutes until the gravy is thickened.
  •  Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice, roti, naan or puri. Goes well with anything.
  • Now, heat oil in another kadhai and saute the chopped onion

Cooking Tips 
  • Do not overcook the peas. If you overcook the peas the gravy will be mushy.
  • When you saute the onions keep it crunchy don't over-cook the onions too.
